Characters/Character Creation

Post your ideas of characters and character creation here. Honestly, Ithink the game should have just a whole slew of skills and spells tochoose from without the thought of classes. Then races could be chosen,giving some bonuses here and there, penalties and such.

Any ideas?

Firstly, I would go for the current system, where there is only classes you can select, and the attributes and skills are based on that. Also, the skill-system in D2 is good, if some changes are made.
For example, the early skills/spells should be made even worth of selecting, because the current system prefers that you do not use that much skillpoints in early game to be able to create good character.
So, either making early skills more worthy of selecting, or putting the option to actually take points out from skills and put to other skills, so that if player sees that his/her early selections were bad because he/she didn't know what to except from later stages, he/she can reput the the skillpoints.
Of course, it could be restricted how much or often you can do it. For example, it could be made so that each time player gains new level, he can remove 1 skillpoint and put it to other skill. This way, the possibility to change the skills is possible, but players are not able to change the skills where poiunts were put every time they encounter new monster with different advantages and disadvantages.

i think this should go on and that the character creation should have a focus on it.

not to say that d3 should be an mmo, but there are enough congruent elements in diablo games so that it would work to....

...make some of the skills cross class only.

eg, as a hunter you have poison arrow of +50 poison dmg over 7 secs.
but then if you have the choice, if you ally with a  sorcerer with a sister spell lets say black hole then your  poison arrow jumps to +80 poison dmg over 7 secs. perhaps the sorcerer's black hole also have an increased area of effect..?

maybe then a paladin comes along wiith a different sister spell and instead of increasing the power of your poison arrow actually changes it to ice arrow if you choose him as your allyinstead. additionally, who knows how the paladin would benefit from theallience.

this particular example would be handy for later in the game aswell, assuming blizzard are going to include immunities again.

ultimately this would mean balancing two thing during your character creation process.

1. choosing spells\skills you want to use throughout the game, and
2. choosing ones that are attractive sister spells to other charachters so they will want to choose you as their allies.

    1:CrossClasses and Sister Spells are a great idea but u could like hav blackhole then poison arrow spewing out of the black hole

2.You can also cross like Paladin and Sorcerer (or sorceress)and that would make a Holy Spellwarrior for instance....
Necromancer + Theurgist(a new class)=Death Warden
Sorceress+Amazon=Tribal Shaman
etc etc etc

3.New Classes
Theurgist     Tribe Leader
Shaman        Harbinger
Tank           Slayer
Warlord        Avenger plus Cross class
